Environmental Impact Assessment
Jan Brooke Environmental Consultant Ltd. provides a bespoke service to organisations involved in the development of, new water’s edge or marine infrastructure that requires an Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) or similar study.
In many cases, Jan works on such projects as a member of the client organisation’s in-house team - providing advice on the required scope of environmental investigations and drawing on her extensive expertise to help differentiate between ‘need to know’ and ‘nice to know’ studies. This approach allows the client’s often-scarce resources to be properly directed to the environmental characteristics most likely to be significantly affected by the proposed development.
Depending on the scale of the project and the characteristics of the local environment, Jan can then either carry out the relevant investigations, or can advise on (and if appropriate manage) other specialist organisations able to undertake the required work.
In providing this bespoke service, Jan draws on her extensive international experience accrued over more than thirty years.
Since 1985, Jan has been responsible for undertaking, directing, advising on, or peer reviewing EIAs for a multitude of organisations, managing
large and small, public and private sector. Jan’s expertise in EIA covers many types of project in the freshwater, coastal and marine environment,
including ports and harbours, dredging and disposal, marinas, flood defence and coast protection.
As well as being an experienced practitioner, Jan has been heavily involved for many years in the preparation of guidance on EIA, as well as in the development and delivery of EIA training courses and workshops. Jan’s work in these areas always draws on her own practical experience, and is complemented by her expertise in associated environmental compliance assessment methodologies.
